Current Efforts
Liberty Institute's legislative division works from our Austin office to fight for such issues as religious freedom and family values. Currently, Jonathan Saenz, Director of Legislative Affairs and Attorney, is working to educate Americans about the issues at stake in the nation. Though much of our legislative advocacy focuses on Texas, our work often has a national impact. For example, Texas leads the way in adult stem cell research and development, and Mr. Saenz often testifies to various committees within the Texas Legislature about the benefits of the ethical adult stem cell research over the embryonic stem cell research practices. Additionally, battles at the Texas State Board of Education, such as keeping Christmas in social studies courses and allowing critical analysis of evolution, have drawn national attention from such media outlets as the New York Times, among others. Lastly, Liberty Institute is involved in countering the efforts of Planned Parenthood to use taxpayer money to control sex education in public schools.
