ACLU
About the issue:
Recently, the ACLU announced its $335 million plan to drastically increase its influence in key communities nationwide. The ACLU's strategy is to populate areas and push their liberal agenda in conservative battleground states, including Texas, Florida, New Mexico, Montana, Mississippi, Michigan, Missouri and Tennessee.
Just look what they've done in California! Because of the ACLU's legal maneuverings in the golden state, the California Supreme Court overturned a constitutional amendment approved by 4.6 million voters defining marriage as between one man and one woman. Since the passage of California's Proposition 8 (ban on gay marriage), the ACLU has continued its work to redefine marriage in California and nationwide.
The ACLU's agenda is by no means limited to gay marriage. Currently, the ACLU represents a lesbian couple and an agnostic couple in a lawsuit attempting to drive the Boy Scouts of America, which pays a small lease fee and maintains part of the park grounds, out of a city park because of the couples' possible offense if they were to visit the park, which they do not. So far, the courts have agreed with the ACLU and ruled that the Boy Scouts are a religious organization and that the city's lease of the park violates the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Additionally, the ACLU is suing for the removal of two war memorial crosses, including the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial, a seven-foot-tall cross in the Mojave National Preserve erected by World War I veterans in 1934, and the Mount Soledad Memorial in San Diego. The ACLU claims that no cross or any other religious symbol should ever be seen on public land.
The ACLU is moving in and wants to limit your freedom. What are you going to do to stop them?
What We're Doing:
Our legal division is working hard to put an end to outrageous lawsuits like the one against the Mojave Desert War Memorial, and has filed a number of legal briefs in the Mojave case (recently heard by the U.S. Supreme Court), the Mount Soledad Memorial case, the Boy Scouts case, and many more. Also, Liberty Institute attorneys successfully represented the Ector County Independent School District when the ACLU filed a lawsuit to stop them from offering Bible courses to high school students.
